He led the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament and blocked an NCAA tournament game record 14 shots (broken the next season by LSU's Shaquille O'Neal) in a first-round victory over the University of Virginia. He then fulfilled his obligation to BYU and the Mormon Church by spending the next two years as a missionary. After his mission was over, instead of using his remaining collegiate eligibility, he elected to enter the 1993 NBA Draft.tall men.
Professional career
Shawn Bradley was highly regarded as an NBA prospect after playing only one season at Brigham Young University. In the 1993 NBA Draft, he was the second pick overall. During his first years with the Philadelphia 76ers, Bradley established himself as a great shot-blocker, averaging 3.5 blocked shots per game. His offensive prowess was more limited, though he did score over 30 points in a game on three different occasions. He had a decent short-range jump shot but it was rarely used. One impressive feat that he accomplished was shooting 92% from the free throw line in 2001-2002, well above his career average.
The most impressive part of Bradley's career is the fact that he had games where his stats were so outstanding, that they have not been matched in the last 24 NBA seasons. According to www.basketballreference.com which has the ability to compare all games played by every player over the last 24 NBA seasons, Shawn Bradley was the only player in that time span to record the following stats.tall men

Over the 24 season span, Bradley was the only player to record at least 5 Offensive Rebounds, 5 Defensive Rebounds, 10 Blocked Shots, and make every Free Throw Attempt. Bradley did this not just once, but on three different occasions. (April 17 1996) (February 6 1997) (April 7 1998)

Bradley, who was very thin, had a tough time against the physical centers and forwards of his generation and had a reputation for being inconsistent and not aggressive when it came to defense. At times, he averaged over 4 fouls per game at just under 30 minutes of playing time. After a couple of solid years with the Dallas Mavericks, Bradley developed knee problems. His production steadily declined, and after the Mavericks acquired Erick Dampier in 2004, Bradley found himself on the bench most of the time. He announced his retirement from professional basketball in June 2005.tall men.
International career

After his retirement as a player, Bradley became involved with West Ridge Academy, a coeducational private school for at-risk youths in West Jordan, Utah. Bradley's role with the school involves some of the functions of a vice principal, counselor, and coach. Describing Bradley, school executive director Ken Allen said, "Shawn has a great presence—due to his size—and has immediate credibility with the kids. His instant credibility when he's talking to kids makes him an incredible mentor. He is a great example of someone who has worked hard and been very successful. Being so tall wasn't always easy for him. He knows about being the 'odd kid' and dealing with that."tall men.
